What?
The next G8 and G20 Summits will be held in Canada in June 2010, providing an excellent opportunity for Reproductive Health Supplies Coalition members to place reproductive health supplies squarely on the agenda of world leaders.
Why the G8 and the G20?
2010 will mark the first time that the G8 and the G20 will be co-hosted (Canada and South Korea) and many believe that this meeting will lead to the eventual merger of the two groups. World leaders will discuss economic issues in the same forum as trade, aid, development and thematic issues, including health, climate change, democracy, peace and so on.
Why join this list?
The list will provide advocacy intelligence and briefings during the lead up to the 2010 meetings, and provide a safe and secure space to strategize and exchange information. We will closely monitor the G8 and G20 process in Canada and work closely with the global civil society movement to exchange information we will all need for advocacy initiatives at our national levels.
What will you hear?
Updates on Canadian based advocacy initiatives, information and analysis on the global G8 civil society meetings (Oct 26-27th in Ottawa), information on the Canadian Conference on International Health (Oct 25-28, Ottawa) which had a major focus on the G8, work that the Partnership for Maternal, Newborn and Child Health is doing in preparation for the G8 (meeting in Ottawa December 2009), parliamentarians plans for the G8, and analysis as the G8 agenda and priorities are developed by participating governments.
What else?
Watch for the dedicated website to be launched in the coming weeks, which will provide a central site for all the resources needed for advocacy around the G8 and G20.
